REPORT | West Allotment 1-3 Consett

West Allotment Celtic were defeated by Consett for the second time this season as goals from Dale Pearson, Luke Carr and Jake Orrell helped the visitors to a 3-1 away win on a chilly evening at Palmersville.

Debutant Owen Carr came off the bench with 20 minutes to go and scored a consolation goal with 12 minutes to go however, Allotment were unable to stage the comeback as Consett held on for the victory.

The crowd of 170 people didn't have too much to witness in the early stages of the game as both sides were cancelling each other out. The first effort on goal came with 23 minutes on the clock as Allotment midfielder Jake Forster took aim from distance but saw his shot sail high and wide.

A minute later, down the other end of the pitch, Consett came close to finding the opener as a scramble in the box resulted in multiple efforts on goal being blocked and saved from close range.

The deadlock was broken just after the half-hour mark. A short corner from the visitors caused Allotment problems and the prolific Dale Pearson was able to tap the ball home from a couple of yards out with a typical poacher's finish.

Rui Martins came close to pulling us level on 34 minutes as he took a shot from just outside the box which was deflected out for a corner to Allotment.

A sucker punch came in additional time in the first half as Luke Carr doubled his side's lead. A well-weighted cross from the right-hand side was headed home by Carr at the back-post to give Consett the 2-goal lead at the break.

On 53 minutes, Dan Marriott was played through on goal however, his attempted chipped effort trickled just wide of Finn Hodgson's post.

The second half continued in similar fashion to the first half with both sides being limited to very few chances. With 70 minutes played, the visitors added a third courtesy of the Jake Orrell. The tricky midfielder received the ball in half a yard of space and he drove into the box before calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

West Allotment did end up having something to shout about as a well-deserved goal came with 12 minutes to go. Matty Hayton flicked the ball into the path of Owen Carr and the latter expertly placed the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The result means we remain in 16th position with the visitors increasing their lead at the top of the table to 7 points.
