After a bright first 25 minutes for West Allotment scoring two goals from Gilberto Chapim and Callum Larmouth, Pilkington fired back in ruthless fashion hitting us for seven.
North West Counties Division One outfit Pilkington FC arguably came into the game as underdogs as they play at Step 6 however, their pace in attack and clinical nature in front of goal was far too much for the visitors in the end.
Both sides from the first whistle looked to attack and the first major opportunity fell the way of the hosts after 6 minutes. They found themselves 1-on-1 with Finn Hodgson however, the striker could not convert and placed his shot wide of the target.
On 11 minutes, Allotment drew first blood as they took the lead. An accurate corner from Regan Paterson found the head of Gilberto Chapim who bulleted his header into the back of the net.
After 25 minutes, the lead was doubled in spectacular fashion. Gee Baltazar laid the ball off to Callum Larmouth who struck the ball on the volley from just outside the box and it went flying into the top corner - Larmouth's 20th goal of the season in all competitions.
The hosts then began to get into the game after 25 minutes and started to take control. A shift in momentum that was credited to the hosts making a formation change.
On 38 minutes, it was game on as Callum Laird scored his first of three goals of the afternoon. Although they were still trailing, they began to look like a big threat as they hit the post from a header just minutes later.
The game was levelled on 42 minutes as Pilkington equalised through Callum Laird for his second of the game.
The comeback for the hosts was complete with 45 minutes on the clock as Daniel Bate curled the ball into the top corner from outside the box. A great strike as Pilkington took the lead.
In stoppage time, it went from bad to worse for Allotment as Pilkington went 4-2 ahead. Michael Scott the unfortunate man to get the final touch as it went down as an own goal.
The ruthless attacking play from the hosts certainly did not ease off in the second half as Callum Laird completed his hat-trick just 5 minutes after the restart. Deklan Hill added a sixth on 55 minutes after a mix up at the back meaning the hosts were leading 6-2.
On the hour-mark, Guy Bates was introduced for his first appearance for West Allotment. He was strong in the challenges and looked to link-up the play alongside Larmouth and Paterson. On 65 minutes, we came close to finding a lifeline as Paterson got in on goal however, his shot towards the near post was smothered by the Pilks' goalkeeper.
With 73 minutes played, Callum Larmouth scored his 21st of the season with a deflected shot that fizzed into the bottom corner to reduce the deficit to three goals.
We continued to try and find a way back into the game as Paterson and Bates both came close but couldn't find the back of the net.
On 87 minutes, the hosts wrapped up the game as Adam Neil made it seven heaven for Pilkington. A counter attack was finished off superbly with Neil's chipped shot floating into the net with the score finishing as 7-3.
