Match Preview: West Allotment Celtic v Ashington AFC

After six league games, West Allotment Celtic find themselves currently rooted to the bottom of the Northern League Division One table. This Saturday we welcome Ashington AFC to Palmersville as we once again look to get our league campaign up and running.

Last time out, West Allotment faced a tricky away trip to Guisborough Town which unfortunately saw Allotment leave the KGV Stadium with nothing as the game finished 3-0 to the hosts. With the games coming thick and fast, and a lot of home games in succession coming up at Palmersville, this is a great opportunity for Allotment to get up and running starting with Ashington this Saturday.

Our Opponents

Ashington currently sit in 4th position in the league table having won three, drawn three and lost one of their opening seven games. In their last game on Wednesday night, they travelled to North Shields and were able to leave with a share of the points after a last minute equaliser from Ryan McGorrigan. They have also recorded some impressive wins this season against the likes of Guisborough Town and West Auckland Town.

The main threats to watch out for from the visitors could be the previously mentioned Ryan McGorrigan as well as Dean Briggs. Between them this season, they have chipped in with eight goals in all competitions and Ashington are also a side that have scored in every game they have played as well highlighting how dangerous their attacking threat is.

Head-to-head

In all competitions, the two sides have met a total of 22 times dating back to the first meeting in 1985 which ended in a 2-3 win for West Allotment in the FA Vase.

In the 22 meetings, Allotment have came out on top eight times and there has also been five draws. The last meeting came in March 2017 which saw West Allotment come out on top in a close game which finished 1-0. This will be the first meeting between the two sides in over 4 years.

Team News

A huge boost for West Allotment comes in the shape of central midfielder Gilberto Chapim who will be returning to the matchday squad after being unavailable through suspension and other commitments in recent weeks. Mikel Thompson and Shane Jones are also expected to return to the matchday squad after missing the last few games which again boosts the squad.

However, winger Regan Paterson could potentially be unavailable from the squad.
